Creativity in Motion lets children explore the joy of creative movement and dance in a safe, supportive environment. Through our classes, many shy children blossom, energetic children realize they can focus and control their bodies, and quite a few boys come to know dance as a wonderfully creative way to express their physicality while improving their strength and agility. We believe one can achieve anything they set their mind on, so we strive to build a positive outlook in our students. We stress fun at all times, because we all learn more when we are having fun! Why Choose Us?
Important: We recommend enrolling early, as our classes fill quickly. A waiting list is available if your class choice is full. We will add a class when the waiting list has at least 5 students. TEACHERS Laura Boyer, Director: Creative Movement & Dance, Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical Miss Laura found her love of dance at age three and never looked back! She competed locally and nationally, was a competition choreographer and judge, and has taught extensively in the subjects of lyrical modern, creative movement, jazz, and ballet. In 1993, Laura earned a full scholarship to STEPS on Broadway (NYC) studying under world-renowned teachers, and her performing career included work with companies in PA, DE, and NY. Over the years, her students have successfully competed, choreographed, earned semi-finalist/finalist status for PA Governor’s School in Dance, studied dance in college, and performed professionally and in regional theater. Laura is constantly exploring new, creative ways to teach movement and dance, replacing the rigid structure of a technique class that often ostracizes so many children, with ways to bring out ones true creativity and joy. Laura earned certification to teach dance to children age 3 – 6, continues her dance education at conferences, has a Bachelor’s in Psychology, and currently attends Drexel University’s Dance/Movement Therapy Master’s program. Jill Peakes: Toddler Time, Creative Movement & Dance Miss Jill is a graduate of West Chester University with a Bachelor’s in Health and Physical Education with a concentration in Adapted Physical Education, and a Master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse in Special/Adapted Physical Education. Prior to coming to Creativity in Motion, Jill taught for many years in special education as a movement education specialist, working with children ages 2-21 in physical education, aquatics, and dance. Jill teaches movement and physical education to preschoolers and early elementary age students at Copeland Run Academy in Downingtown, and currently coaches youth field hockey and lacrosse. As a gymnast and athlete, Jill developed the love of movement at an early age. She believes everyone, any age or ability, should have the opportunity to enjoy and experience movement. What better way to do that than through dance. Music and movement … a beautiful combination! Cindy Watras: Tap Miss Cindy began dancing when she was just five years old, and is trained in ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, lyrical, and pointe. She has participated in various recitals, community performances, and competitions, and began teaching dance in high school! Cindy’s passion for dance continued at the University of Delaware as a member of the Delaware Repertory Dance Company (DRDC), where she performed, taught dance classes, choreographed routines, and became Secretary of DRDC. She has a love of dance that only continues to grow, and she cannot imagine her life without dance, because it gives her so much joy and has had a great impact on the person she has become! Cindy graduated from the University of Delaware in 2009 with a Bachelor’s in Education. She works in education and has her Pennsylvania and Delaware teaching certification for Elementary Education (K-6) and Special Education (N-12).
